Well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets, as well as her intense, large-scale environments, Yayoi Kusama works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, film, performance, and immersive installation. The Whitney Museum first exhibited Kusama's work in the Whitney's 2004 Biennial and then again in Summer of Love: Art of the Psychedelic Era, an exhibition organized by the Tate Museum, in 2005-06. The Whitney owns three of Kusama's works, including Fireflies on the Water, 2002.
