Kusama arrived in the United States, from Japan, in 1957 rapidly establishing herself among the New York avant-garde. Gaining international attention during the 1960s with her paintings, sculpture, installations, poems and novels, performances and film, her powerful presence has been an influence and inspiration for subsequent generations of artists. Her works are included in private, public and museum collections worldwide. Kusama was included in the 2004 Whitney Biennial and in The Summer of Love, in 2005-06.
